If I speak with the tongues of men
and of messengers, but do not have
love, I have become as sounding brass or a
clanging cymbal.
2And if I have prophecy, and know all
secrets and all knowledge, and if I have all
belief, so as to remove mountains, but do
not have love, I am none at all.
3And if I give out all my possessions to
feed the poor, and if I give my body to be
burned, but do not have love, I am not
profited at all.
4Love is patient, is kind, love does not
envy, love does not boast, is not puffed up,
5does not behave indecently, does not
seek its own, is not provoked, reckons not
the evil,
6does not rejoice over the unrighteousness,
but rejoices in the truth,
7it covers all, believes all, expects all,
endures all.
8Love never fails. And whether there be
prophecies, they shall be inactive; or
tongues, they shall cease; or knowledge, it
shall be inactive.
9For we know in part and we prophesy
in part.
10But when that which is perfect has
come, then that which is in part shall be
inactive.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I
thought as a child, I reasoned as a child.
But when I became a man, I did away with
childish matters.
12For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but
then face to face. Now I know in part, but
then I shall know, as I also have been
known.
13And now belief, expectation, and love
remain – these three. But the greatest of
these is love.
In this modern day and age, the majority are confused over the true meaning of love. Love is completely foreign to man, as we are all born into a sinful world that has been removed from the bosom of the Father’s Love in the Garden. Not saying the Father does not love all of us, what I’m saying is that we do not dwell in that Set Apart place that is immersed in AGAPE Love. The Love that is one with Truth.
There are three types of love that we are aware of and it is important to understand the difference between them in order to understand what Yeshua commanded us to love our Father and love our Neighbor.
- Eros is a passionate, intense, and physical form of romantic love, often driven by strong desire, physical attraction, and a longing for connection and intimacy. It originates from the ancient Greek word eros and is characterized by its intensity and a focus on mutual pleasure and desire.Â
- Philio a deep affection, fondness, and loyalty akin to brotherly love or strong friendship, contrasting with the unconditional, sacrificial nature of agape love. It is a conditional love, often reciprocal, and found in close relationships like those between best friends, family members, or fellow believers. The city of Philadelphia, meaning “brotherly love,” is a prime example of the affectionate bond phileo describes.Â
- Agape selfless, unconditional love. .It’s a love that extends to all, even those deemed undeserving, and is characterized by kindness, sacrifice, and a focus on the well-being of others. Often associated with the love of God for humanity in Christianity, agape transcends romantic or familial affection, encompassing a broader, altruistic love.Â
Looking into each of the three forms of love, we need to compare them to the love that Yeshua was showing all. I believe it is safe to say that he was not showing us Eros, he was not trying to get romantic with all of us. one can also say that he was not showing Philio Love because Philio love is conditional on the other loving you as well. There was a division between us and the Father after the first sin wherein man had fallen out of Love, so brotherly love does not apply because man is unable to love. Now to Agape, the selfless, unconditional love, definitely a match. Everything Yeshua did was out of selfless motives. He shared His desire to save us from our fallen state, and he was willing to suffer greatly for us. He offered Himself up as a sacrifice on our behalf so that we can reconcile with our Father in Heaven. We could not give Yeshua anything; we had nothing to give.
4Love is patient, is kind, love does not
envy, love does not boast, is not puffed up,
5does not behave indecently, does not

the evil,
6does not rejoice over the unrighteousness,
but rejoices in the truth,
7it covers all, believes all, expects all,

8Love never fails.Â
12“This is My command, that you love
one another, as I have loved you.
13“No one has greater love than this: that
one should lay down his life for his
friends.
14“You are My friends if you do whatever
I command you.
